The misery continues for prospective PS5 buyers as another limited drop of Best Buy PS5 consoles dries up. The retailer was the only one to have a PS5 restock this week, after a busy end of May, with the in-demand console selling out at GameStop, Walmart, Target, and Amazon.
Best Buy PS5 Restocks
A Best Buy PS5 restock is incredibly hard to pin down, and they usually sell out within a limited amount of time due to supply shortages from Sony.
Starting at $399, Sony’s flagship next-gen console is notoriously hard to bag. A part of the problem is scalpers trawling the Internet and social media platforms and snapping up consoles as they become available. They can then sell them on at a profit.
A quick scan of many popular online marketplaces reveals the availability of consoles at inflated prices.
Best Buy is certainly not alone in running out of the PS5 consoles. All major retailers have had issues maintaining supplies.
One way to stay on top of a Best Buy PS5 restock is to monitor the website regularly. But an easier approach is to follow their Best Buy Restock Notifications group on Twitter.
They post regular updates to the group and you get the notification directly on your phone. Make sure you turn on notifications on your phone!
Sony CFO, Hiroki Totoki, reportedly told analysts at a recent briefing that he did not see the demand for the PS5 calming down any time soon in 2021. Despite Sony’s best efforts, he does not think they will be able to keep up with demand for the next-gen console.
I don’t think demand is calming down this year and even if we secure a lot more devices and produce many more units of the PlayStation 5 next year, our supply wouldn’t be able to catch up with demand.CFO Hiroki Tokoki
Totoki further blamed supply shortages on problems in the hardware supply chain for semiconductors. All of this putting pressure on the next Best Buy PS5 restock.
Whilst Sony continues to look for solutions to the issues in their supply chain it does not appear to have dented sales.
PS5 sales were reportedly ahead of where PS4 sales were during the same period, notching up over 8 million units shipped.
Sony has not commented publicly on the reported remarks.
